Home Maintenance 1
Home ownership is a wonderful blessing and something people should aspire to. Where home ownership is high, communities, schools, institutions, society and most of all families prosper. However, with home ownership responsibility increases. You cannot ignore a home. If you do so long enough it will lead to condemnation and possibly a bulldozer! There is physical maintenance to maintain a home (paint, mechanicals, landscape, etc.). But there is another kind of maintenance that is equally important to maintain. Besides the electrical, mechanical, cooling and plumbing systems of your home, how are you doing in maintaining the “Value Systems?” How are you creating a moral, emotional and spiritual climate where the people who live there are thriving in their character? Home is where people learn about trust, faith, self-esteem, compassion and other values that make a person whole.
We will look at this over the next few days, beginning today with daily tasks. Everyday there is something to do. I have chores to ready the home for living. In a physical sense this could be cleaning, cooking, taking out the trash and the like. Those routines are important. Forget to take out the trash for a while and quality of life diminishes.
For a home to be healthy it needs to be filled with more than furniture and belongings. For people to thrive they need to grow in character. They need to grow in LOVE. Love is a big word and here we can look at a variety of ways in which love is expressed. Kindness is a good start. For a home to be healthy to the psyche of the people living there, they need to be kind to one another. Kindness is defined as the quality of being friendly, generous, affectionate and considerate. Kindness promotes warmth, comfort, concern and care.
We live in a selfish world. People doing all they can for themselves. I think we can live better. We can create a home environment for ourselves and those for whom we care the most, a place that promotes values such as love and kindness. Home is the ideal place to learn to do for others; to be kind and prefer our parents, children, siblings so they can be all they can be.
A higher life is to be kind to all, to be kind regardless of race, belief and cultural differences. In a real sense to ignore how others are different because every human being is created with an internal dignity that we should honor. If we were all a little more kind each day would that make the world a better place? I think so, how about you? I don’t think you need a charge for what you should do today. You know as well as I. Let’s go do it!
