We live in a very loud world. In the last ten years or so it has gotten louder with constant media streams channeling into our daily lives. Facebook, Twitter, Snap Chat, Texting, to name a few have invaded our lives with a constant barrage of information; some times helpful, sometimes not. There is an APP for everything.
We need silence and solitude to be healthy – so says numerous articles from Psychology Today to the Huffington Post. Do a Google search for the Benefits of Solitude and Silence and you will find a wealth of endorsements from every perspective on the value “the quiet” can offer and produce.
Canterbury is a place where you can pull away from all the noise and be still. We provide a refuge in a complex and busy world. You can retreat by yourself in solitude. You can also retreat with others who are on a journey of discovery and growth.
Action: Think about the last time you found real quiet and solitude and reflect on the benefit of unplugging from the world for a few minutes each day. How can you foster healthy silence in your life?
